  • #23 - Jakub Zboril could be a great pick late in the first round. He's similar to Thomas Chabot and Jeremy Roy in that his transition game, and ability to break the puck out is very good. Some scouts see him as a top 15 talent.
  • #24 - I'm not a huge fan of Brandon Carlo, but it's hard to be down on a guy who's 6'5 and can skate like he can. Carlo could be a steady shut down guy like Dennis Seidenberg.
  • #25 - Jake Debrusk had a tremendous season in Swift recording 42 goals. He's a dynamic offensive forward who is always a threat in the O zone. He will hit 90+ points next season.
  • #26 - Joel Eriksson Ek was a late comer to the party, but his body of work over the course of the season is impressive. He's a very good offensive player and is strong in his own end. He played 34 games in the SHL and recorded 6 points.
  • #27 - Daniel Sprong is intriguing. He's a very good offensive player who looks like he's worked on rounding out his defensive game. Sprong is a good skater who is always a threat offensively.
  • #28 - Brock Boeser is committed to North Dakota next season and will be a key player on that squad. He brings a strong, powerful game but isn't necessarily a power forward. He has a great set of hands and excels at both ends of the ice.
  • #29 - Next to Harkins, Nicholas Meloche is my favourite player in the draft. He's a big, mean defenceman who put up 33 points this season. I believe he could be a top four defenceman, and next year will be huge for him.
  • #30 - Jeremy Bracco could be the gem in this draft. He excels in the new style of hockey which is speed and skill. He's got unbelievable hands, and is a dynamo in the offensive zone. Earlier in the year I compared him to Mike Ribiero, but I believe his ceiling is much higher than that.
Honourable mentions:
-Jacob Larsson - LD - Frolunda (SHL) - 6'2 / 180 lbs
-Alexander Dergachyov - C - SKA-1946 St. Petersburg (MHL) - 6'4 / 201 lbs
-Thomas Novak - C - Waterloo Blackhawks (USHL) - 6'0 / 180 lbs
-Filip Ahl - LW - HV71 J20 (SuperElit) - 6'4 / 214 lbs
-Filip Chlapik - C - Charolettetown Islanders (QMJHL) - 6'1 / 183 lbs
-Rasmus Andersson - RD - Barrie Colts (OHL) - 6'0 / 210 lbs
This is a ridiculously deep draft, and with that in mind I believe it would be best for GM's in the top 20 to retain their pick. Certainly there are drop offs in pick value, but there's not a lot of difference between, for example, between pick 8 and 15. You're going to get a good player no matter where you pick in the first round.
